Guitar Hero (originallly posted on the MATM blog)

Ok. So a few weeks back in a haze of regression, Bean and I went out and picked up Guitar Hero III for the Xbox 360 (along w/ a few pints of Ben and Jerry's). Being a guitar player, I kinda figured this would be the one video game that I would be able to play without embarrassing myself. While I thought I was the shit by beating it pretty quickly on the medium level, some little 8 year old kid comes along and schools me (and everyone else that ever picked up that guitar-shaped piece of plastic). Here's the video I'm talking about:

Did you know that the new Guitar Hero game sold 1.5 million copies in the first week of release? Amazing.

We're adding new shows all the time and I may even be adding one this evening. I'll keep you posted in the coming hours.

News from Cafe Coco

Hey y'all!! Thanks to those that stuck around last night to hear me play at Cafe Coco. It was a fun night and Andrew and I had the pleasure of playing w/ A Parade. 'Twas a wild little free jazz freak out. Here's a pic of the crowd from the stage directly after the A Parade bit.

Thanks and I'll see ya again soon.

Catching Up!!

Hey everybody. Boy, it's been a crazy few weeks. The New Whole Usuals show @ the Basement last week was - by all accounts - a delightful outing. Everyone was in costume and no one got arrested (at least as far as I know). The after-party swiftly raged into the wee hours of Sunday morning. There are some pics over on the Me and the Machine blog. Hit those when time allows. We'll have a video from the show shortly as well.
On the day of the show, Nick stopped by the MATM Studios w/ Kevin. Kevin kicked out some intense mandolin and fiddle bits for Nick's new record. With a bit of additional mixing on both Nick and Brad's records, we should be ready to roll out. I really can't wait for you guys to hear these albums. They are fine, fine records!!
I'm working on booking some solo shows now and I should have more info in the coming days. The next scheduled bit is in Ashville, NC on 12.8.08 @ The Root Bar. It's going to be a dope little MATM show with Brad Sweitzer and Nick Shelton already confirmed.
Lola, Andrew and Alex hung out last night and the jam that ensued was mighty special.
Andrew and I are talking about creating an electronic record. Could be some pretty mind-bending who-ha.
I'm running on no sleep and am getting ready to go check out Josh Ritter at the Exit In. I suspect this will be an incredible show. Pump me full of red bull and send me on my way.
Until the sooner parts of next time,
Jose!

Insomnia

Hey y'all!! It's a rainy day here in Nash-vegas. I didn't fall asleep until 6:30am. That would be all fine and good if I didn't have to work @ 9am. And with the weekend I had, I should have passed out after the Red Sox won last night. Oh well. It was a great weekend regardless. Friday I wrote and recorded a new tune called "Etchings" which I'm really happy with. It's still very much in demo form but I think it will be the tune that finalizes my new record called Exit Sounds. More on that whole thing soon.

Saturday night I played for and with Mike Farley at his album release party in Hermitage. It was awesome!! Thanks again Mike and Wayne for inviting me out to play.

Sunday brought a marathon rehearsal with The New Whole Usuals. It's hard to believe that the show is happening on Saturday the 27th @ The Basement. It's going to be wild. We dropped off records at Grimey's on Saturday so be sure to grab your copy tomorrow exclusively at Grimey's. If you pick up Ween's new record, you'll get $1 off of The New Whole Usuals record. Both will provide a lifetime of musical wonderment.

Let's attempt this again....

Hi everybody. The great fourth transformation has begun. Actually, I'm sitting next to the transformation right now while it's being attempted. Bean is in the process of building me a new site. While I liked to convenience of my little weebly site, it simply didn't give me all of the elements I needed. It felt more like a blog (clearly, blogging isn't a bad thing) but it was time for a more profound site. Something that represents the noises that I make. It will hopefully be completed this evening and if so, it will be a world record for both site design and execution.

It's been an incredible day. I got to hear The New Whole Usuals receive their first bit of airplay on UK-based Error FM. They spun "No Name Sally" as the opening song on their show The Waiting Room. It was a pivotal moment indeed.

Also, earlier in the day I got an email from Mike Farley indicating that his song "All It Is" got spun this morning on Sirius Satellite Radio's The Coffeehouse. This tune is on Mike's new record entitled Moments and Memories. Said record was produced and engineered by yours truly at the Me and the Machine Studios. I'm super proud of this record. Hell, I'm proud of every record I've had the privilege of working on this year. And if 2008 is anything like 2007, then I'll probably go deaf and blind. Not sure what that means but let's run with it.

Welcome to my new(er) site!!

Ok, this has been and will continue to be a work in progress. I'm really excited about this company called Weebly. I read about them in Newsweek and I fell in love instantly. I can now edit my entire website via the web instead of being tied to a computer with web building software. These guys are brilliant. Expect a lot more from me now that I'm mobile!! Chat w/ you all again very soon and if you're in New Mexico this weekend, stop by my show!!!

Bad (good) Myspace.

Myspace has stolen all of the attention away from this site. It's not a bad thing I guess, it's just tough to get over here when myspace is so easy to get to. If you're as captivated by this social phenomenon as I am, don't forget to be my friend by going to myspace.com/joshprestonmusic. If you haven't been over there for a while, let me bring you up to speed...
The label (Me and the Machine Records) is kicking into high gear. We've nearly finished new records with Brad Sweitzer and Nick Shelton and I couldn't be prouder of each release. I can't wait to share them with you. I've got a new release that is currently exclusively available at the Me and the Machine Shop. Check it out!!! The next one is on the way...
I've got a bunch of shows coming up. Be sure to check out the tour section on this site. Most notably, I'll be playing the Hyperactive Festival in Albuquerque, NM in May, I will let you know the date as we get closer.
Ok, that's all I can think of at this moment. Keep checking back and I'll do the same...haha. See-ya soon.

New website and happenings!

So since I haven't updated my news since November of last year, I figured what the hell, we'll just update my entire site!!! So here it is folks, the newly redesigned joshpreston.com. Please click around and enjoy.

On the musical front, in December, we launched a new record label called Me and the Machine Records. I'm incredibly proud of this label and the artists that are represented on it. There are two new albums by Nick Shelton and Brad Sweitzer that were released on 2.6.07. Please take the time to check them out on the digital distribution site of your choice (iTunes, Napster, eMusic, Zune, etc.). Video from the release party will be up shortly so check back.

My next record entitled "Rooftop Silhouettes" will be available on May 1st. More news on that when we get a bit closer to the release date.
I'll be playing again on 2.22.07 w/ the Rat Pack Writers @ the Blue Bar in Nashville. Pop by if you're in the area.

Ok, more soon and as always, if I haven't sent you a friend request on myspace, please send me one if you're so inclined. Take care and I'll see you again soon.
